6th Grade Photo Essay by Christian

              The greatest school in all the land for the exercise they give us out at recess. Also the Phys Ed classes because they teach us the exercise we need in are lives and also gives us the time to have fun. It's the greatest school because the fact we still get to have recess one last time before middle school. In sixth grade it also shows us what its going to sort of be like when we grow up, because we get to go to JA BizTown. For Team S we get to have a fun time after every month, and that is thoughtful of the teachers to do that for us, because we could just keep working hard, but they let us have some fun.

It's the greatest school because we get to have the track meet in fourth fifth and sixth. We do the high jump, long jump, 50 yard dash, 75, 100, 220, 440, 440 relay, shot put, foxtail, softball, javelin, hurdles, tug of war, slingshot football, and relays.

We also get to do the dunk tank at the end of the year, but you only get to throw, if you raised one hundred dollars or more for the jump rope for heart. This year fifth grade was kind enough to make a lemonade stand for all grades, outside at recess.

          This year they added T.V's into some classrooms, the lobby and the cafeteria. They put messages and photos onto the T.V's for fun sometimes or when they want to tell the school a message. So far there have only been a couple of pictures and or messages put onto them. I bet next year they might use them a lot more.

The greatest school in all the land by Jaelen

The greatest  school in all the land for art
The art at Sinking Spring are neat and awesome. Some of the good are a colorful tree and good drawings. Most of the art is from the 5th art is in the hallway and they are good.
The 5th graders had a good idea and made a lemonade for 50 cents. They made a cool lemonade stand. The lemonade was good and the stand was creative!

The 4th grade made these little monsters in art class. the were creative and neat. they were a lot of 5th graders who made the little Monsters.

The 4th, 5th, and the 6th grade band  sound great. They are a lot of people that play band because it is fun. The 4th graders play band for the first time in Sinking Springs.

The greatest school in all the land is Sinking Springs. There are a lot of people that like Sinking Springs. Sinking Springs has good food in the cafeteria for the students.

The Best Of...

The greatest school in all the land for gym:
We do a lot of fun things like games. We always play games like gladiator, Dodgeball, Prisoner Base Bombardment, Jail Break, etc  Other than games we do other physical stuff like... The climbing wall, and other fun different things to do.

The greatest school in all the land for art:
Art is a fun subject, we get to make things out of clay plus put them in the kiln and paint them. We use Paint and water colors to paint a lot of things. we even once made something that looks like metal. Art is still decorating the room either from other students or from the art teacher.

The greatest school in all the land for Lemonade:
The fifth graders have made a lemonade stand, and they have been selling it at recess and they have also been selling it at the art show and they were getting a lot of donations. They seem to be having a lot of doing it.

The greatest school in all the land for coming to learn:
This fun school is a place where it is a lot of fun to learn. From math to science, music to art, and everything in between. The teachers are fun and most love to teach. They are all very nice, but even some help kids in bigger need of help for extra reading and math.

Who Invented Basketball by Christian

Who Invented Basketball?
He was inspired by a game he had played as a child called "duck on a rock."
Only advanced the ball by passing.
~~~~~~
In 1939, March Madness began.
Naismith decided to invent a game of skill, finesse and accuracy.
Very sad fact...March Madness began the same year that Dr. Naismith died.
Each player had to climb a ladder to retrieve the ball from the basket.
Naismith was a physical education instructor.
The first college basketball game was played on 1/18/1896, final score was Chicago 15,  Lowa 12.
Even players earned points by successfully tossing the ball into the peach baskets, kinda like today.
Dr. James Naismith invented basketball.
~~~~~~
Basketball became an official Olympic sport at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany.
A fact is iron hoops with open-ended nets did'nt come until 1913.
Set of 13 basic rules.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record for most points scored in a career with 38,387 points.
Eighteen ninety one basketball was invented.
The first game was played on December 21, 1891.
Bouncing the ball along the floor-what we call dribbling now- was'nt part of the game until later.
A soccer ball was used back then but later the basketball was created.
Looking back, Chicago won the first game, I wonder who was all on the team.
Last but not least, I think that basketball is a great sport, it can be played almost anywhere.

Who Invented Football by Ryan

Who Invented Football?
He, Walter Camp, helped steer American football away from rugby and soccer rules.
Over many years, rugby turned into our modern football.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 1876, a conversation was held about the first rules for American football.
Now, William Heffelfinger, became the first person to get paid for a football game.
Very cool fact...
Enjoying looking at the past, how they use the pigskin's football.
Next, in 1920 the American Professional Football Association was created.
The two leagues eventually merged to start the Super Bowl.
Eventually, Yale coach Walther Camp became the the "Father Of American Football"
During the first football game, PAC fumbled and running the ball 35 yards to score a touchdown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From bone jarring sacks and gravity defying catches, to goal line standings, and thrilling kickoff returns, there's nothing quite like the sport of football.
Over the years, the Professional Football Association changed their name to the National Football League. (NFL)
Over many years, football was primarily played by colleges.
Today, the Super Bowl is the most watched television event in the United States every year.
Back in the day, football had a interesting past.
A rivalry between Pittsburgh Athletics Club, eventually led to the first professional football player:; William (Pudge) Heffelfinger.
Leagues are hight competition since the football league started.
Lastly, I think football is one of the greatest sports around.

Have You Ever Wondered... by Christopher

Have you ever wondered...
  • Do cats have nine lives? Well, cats don't have nine lives even though people think that they do have nine lives by the extraordinary things they do. Well scientists have studied cats and found that the nine lives is just their great dexterity and agility.

Have you ever wondered...
  • What agility and dexterity is? It is just about when you are quicker, flexible, and good with your hands. With agility mostly there are people flinging themselves around and twisting around.

Have you ever wondered...
  • Is it always nine lives? The myth is always multiple lives but sometimes its 9 and sometimes it is 6 lives. Plus some Spanish-speaking regions believe they also have 7 lives.

Have you ever wondered...
  • Where the myth came from? The myth came from the fact that cats can survive extreme events that would usually kill-hurt other animals. also the nine lives came from the ancient Egyptian sun god, Atum-Ra because he was believed to take the form of a cat when he went into the underworld, and he gave birth to five gods while he was in the form of a cats. So comes the legend 9 lives in one.

Storm Chasers by Nick

If I were to be a storm chaser,
for just one day I would:

  • add sixteen thousand pounds to the bottom of my vehicle and drive straight into the heart of a tornado.
  • experiment new ways to forecast tornadoes and hurricanes.
  • risk my whole life to throw scientific devices into the high winds of a tornado.
  • find out  what it's like to be inside of a tornado.

Swirling Tornado by Christopher

Oh, swirling Tornado,
What if I saw you.
There are people heading,
toward you,
with scientific machines.
Oh, swirling Tornado,
What if I saw you.
~~~~
Oh, Swirling Tornado,
What if I saw you.
scanning how you work,
and how you form.
Plus they chase you,
for fun and science.
Oh, swirling Tornado,
What if I saw you.
~~~~
Oh, swirling tornado,
What is I saw you.
With hours of driving,
People find you.
With cars that survive,
your winds.
Storm chasers as scientists,
Chase you all the time to study you.

Oh, swirling Tornado,
What if I saw you.

I WOULD BE A STORM CHASER!
